Johann Vexo
Né en 1978 à Nancy, Johann Vexo a travaillé avec Christophe Mantoux au Conservatoire de Strasbourg où il a obtenu le premier prix d’orgue. Il a poursuivi ses études au Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris auprès de Michel Bouvard et Olivier Latry pour l’orgue, ainsi que Philippe Lefebvre pour l’improvisation. Il a obtenu plusieurs récompenses dont le premier prix d’orgue, le premier prix de basse continue et les prix d’harmonie et de contrepoint.
Nommé sur concours, à 25 ans, organiste de chœur de Notre-Dame de Paris, Johann Vexo est maintenant titulaire du grand orgue Cavaillé-Coll de la cathédrale de Nancy ainsi que professeur d’orgue au Conservatoire et à l’Académie Supérieure de Musique de Strasbourg.
Invité de nombreux festivals internationaux, Johann Vexo donne des concerts en Europe, aux Etats-Unis, au Canada, en Australie, en Nouvelle-Zélande et en Russie. En soliste ou avec orchestre, il s’est notamment produit à Auckland, Chicago, Genève, Los Angeles, Munich, New York, Saint-Pétersbourg, San Francisco, Sydney, Vienne et Washington, dans des lieux tels que l’abbaye de Westminster à Londres, le Wanamaker Grand Court de Philadelphie, le Palais royal de Stockholm, le Kultur und Kongresszentrum de Lucerne, l’hôtel de ville de Brisbane, le conservatoire de Moscou et la cathédrale métropolitaine de Mexico.
Parallèlement, Johann Vexo a été invité à enseigner l’orgue dans le cadre de master-classes pour l’American Guild of Organists ainsi qu’au sein de prestigieuses institutions (Rice University à Houston, Université McGill à Montréal, University of Michigan, Folkwang Universität à Essen, Yale University, Haileybury College à Melbourne, Trinity University à San Antonio, International Organ Assemblies à Kaliningrad…). Il a réalisé plusieurs enregistrements sur des instruments historiques français, dont un sous le label JAV recordings aux grandes orgues de Notre-Dame de Paris.

Born in 1978 in Nancy, Johann Vexo first studied organ with Christophe Mantoux at the Strasbourg Conservatory where he was awarded Premier Prix in organ. He continued his studies at the Paris Conservatory where his teachers included Michel Bouvard and Olivier Latry for organ, and Philippe Lefebvre for improvisation. He earned Premier Prix in both organ and basso continuo and additional prizes in harmony and counterpoint.
At the age of 25, he won the competition to become Choir Organist of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris. He is now Organist of the Cavaillé-Coll great organ of the Cathedral in Nancy, Professor of Organ at the Conservatory and at the Superior Music Academy in Strasbourg.
Johann Vexo has performed extensively throughout Europe, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Russia. He has appeared as a featured artist in numerous international music festivals and organ series in cities such as Auckland, Chicago, Geneva, Los Angeles, Montreal, Munich, New York, Saint Petersburg, San Francisco, Sydney, Vienna and Washington DC. His performances have also included notable venues such as the Westminster Abbey in London, the Wanamaker Grand Court in Philadelphia, the Royal Palace in Stockholm, the Kultur und Kongresszentrum in Lucerne, the Brisbane City Hall, the Moscow Conservatory and the Metropolitan Cathedral in Mexico City.
Johann Vexo has also performed with various orchestras and musical ensembles. He has been invited to teach organ master classes for the American Guild of Organists and at prestigious institutions (Rice University in Houston, McGill University in Montreal, University of Michigan, Folkwang Universität in Essen, Yale University, Haileybury College in Melbourne, Trinity University in San Antonio, International Organ Assemblies in Kaliningrad…). He has recorded several CDs on historical French organs, especially one on the JAV Recordings label on the great organ of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris.
